Around OZ Take Off

Eighteen days since last entry , so busy getting ready for the big move around Oz, Easter in between seeing family and friends and finalizing the things that needed doing, but we are now well on our way.

We are in Roma Queensland , since leaving Melbourne on Easter Monday our first stop was Wodonga where we stayed on the drive way of Shirls next door neighbors. than on Thursday 16th we headed north,
our first stop was;

Free camp in Dubbo after driving most of the day, it was basically dinner and of to bed.

Next day we moved on and caught up with Ronnie and Arnold in Moore, Northern NSW, Thermal pool country and the warmer weather started to show itself after all those cold days in Tassie and Melbourne.

Our Convoy

Moore we stayed for four days at Gwydir Carravan park this park has

4 Thermal pools which the residents are able to use and are free, our stay here was great as we spent a lot of time in the pools and generally relaxed and Bianke said that this was the first time we actually did not leave the park except to go shopping for food.

We moved on Tuesday the 21st of April

Free camped over night at a place called Nindigully next too a very old pub the night was warm and

after a beer in the pub a few drinks at our camp site off to bed.

I made the comment; if it rains I am out of here, the soil is red and sandy and would turn to slush very quickly, guess what, it rained so after bringing
in the chairs etc, I moved at 4 o'clock AM a hundred meters I was not going to take a chance that we might get bogged, but of course it was only a shower.

After a few photos in the morning we headed for Roma

Roma is in the center of the oil and gas fields in Southern Queensland it also has giant bottle trees or Boactree its real name.

Boac tree or Bottle tree as it is known

Boac Tree pretty large

The Big Rig museum and info center

The Big Rig itself this is a drilling for oil and gas rig

Off to Carnarvon Gorge in the morning.

Till next time Cheerio,

Oh yeah just a note: Thanks to all who where kind enough to accommodate us (they know who they are) and Ray the flag is flying as you can see.

Longford to sailing back to the Bigger Island

saying good bye

My Last entry for a while as in the morning we sail for the Bigger Island, since our last entry nothing much has happened we travelled from Longford on tuesday after a 4 day stay there due to the weather which was wet and cold. did no more freecamping as we would have had no heating so the last week has been in caravan parks.

Athough while in longford we did visit mount Ben Lomon and upon getting 7/8 up the mount to get to the top we would have had to travel along a stretch of road called Jacobs Ladder this stretch is so narrow and winding and it is one way only, it zig zags straight up the mountain and I woud have attemted it but it was to wet and Dangerous and walking also was out of the question,

Ben Lomon Mountain
anyway we did have a nice drive up there.

The next day we visited a Mansion called Woolmers

All of the above are of The Mansion and the grounds

The oldest surviving Wooden Water Wind Mill Pump in Australia

This picture shows the old, in between and New pump stations

One of the last mansions completely left as it was over 150 years ago. the last person alive here only died in 1994 and he left everything to a trust he set up and it administered by the State. Absolutely fascinating and we spend almost half a day there if in Tassie a must to visit, there also is a Rose Garden with every variety of roses one can imagen.

The Rose Garden

Wednesday we decided to go look for a freecamp near Devonport but after some difficulties we decided to head for the Abel Tasman CP where we have been for the last 3 nights.

While here, we traveled to Burnie once more for some Cheese and a quick look see if we could get something for the van.

Today we washed the Van and Prado and got ready for embarking in the morning. so for this Chapter in our Travels. So we say cheerio untill 10 days from now when once more we are on the road to AnyWhere.
